Is the DMV open today in New York?

In New York, driver licensing is handled by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Its offices close on the state's holiday schedule below — and on weekends. If today isn't one of those, offices run normal business hours.

Most DMV offices in New York are run by county clerks and they do not all keep the same holiday hours, so check the page for your local office first.

July 4 falls on a Saturday in 2026 and New York does not shift the holiday to the Friday before, so July 3 is a regular business day.

Dates come from the New York State Civil Service 2026 calendar of legal holidays, plus the DMV's own notice that offices may also close on Election Day.
